Doctor switches to e-prescriptions

News staff writer Doctors' sloppy handwriting may be an old joke, but it's no laughing matter for Dr. Michael Geer.
After all, a recent study shows that as many as 7,000 people are killed each year by faulty prescriptions based on illegible handwriting. So to avoid any problems, Geer, who's in private practice at Medicine Montclair, uses a handheld computer instead of an old-fashioned pad to send prescriptions straight to the pharmacy with the touch of a button.
